Wine Tasting and Supper – Friday 25 October at 7.30 p.m.

Following the success of last year’s event we will be holding another wine tasting evening on Friday 25 October. We will be exploring alternatives to our favourite European wines, and we will introduce some excellent English wines from a Surrey vineyard.

Every Friday evening should start with fizz, and this will be no exception. After much enjoyable research we found a wonderful English Sparkling wine produced by Greyfriars Vineyard on the Hog’s Back from the classic Champagne grape varieties. We will see how it stands up against the iconic Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial and a Graham Beck sparkler from South Africa. We will serve a selection of canapés with the fizz. The white wines will all be Pinot Grigios. Against an Italian wine from the Südtirol we will taste one from Greyfriars Vineyard and another from a popular New Zealand producer.

Our first group of reds will be Pinot Noirs and we will match a New Zealand Marlborough Pinot and one from Chile’s LImari Valley up against a classic French Burgundy. For our second red wine tasting we will see if we can tell Claret (a classic Bordeaux from the excellent 2015 vintage) from South African and Chilean Bordeaux blends. A supper of British produce (ham, pork pies and cheeses) will be provided.

During the evening there will be games (with prizes) and a wine quiz. This event is open to all so feel free to bring some friends along as well. Please book early as tickets will be limited.
